Karlmortar is awarded the Military Medal for leadership under fire during action in Abbaye de Ardenne on 21 June 1944.
His men were able to knock out 3 Pz IV and inflict heavy losses on the attacking Germans, while in a tight situation with only a few hundred meters of terrain to defend.
His efforts bring great credit on himself and the Desert Rats.
